Mega Bog makes music that feels like an intricate crystal ball in which to get lost. Erin Birgy erases the traditions of songwriting with cryptic lyrics and free-spirited jazzy arrangements that deviate and sometimes take a completely miraculous turn. At some points, the music sounds like Joni Mitchell has managed to get Stereolab as her backing band.
The breakthrough album Dolphine sounds like all the colors of the rainbow are represented, while the latest full-length Life, and Another explores the more monochrome, nocturnal atmospherics. The record was written with Big Thief-drummer James Krivchenia in the desolate desert landscape of New Mexico. The album explores Birgy’s personal trauma and her attempt to disconnect from the affirmation of others. Life, and Another is Birgy’s most refined, fluid, and accessible collection of songs to date.
Ticket sale starts 15 October.
