V11 x BIRD presents: Kaia Kater

Canadian singer-songwriter Kaia Kater is a master at blending tradition and innovation. With her warm, jazzy voice, subtle banjo playing, and layered songwriting, she weaves influences from Quebec, the Caribbean, and Appalachia into a unique sound that has earned her recognition on NPR’s Tiny Desk, The Guardian, and Rolling Stone, among others.

Her latest album, Strange Medicine (2024), reveals a broader, cinematic side. Along with guest artists like Taj Mahal, Allison Russell, and Aoife O’Donovan, Kaia celebrates the power of women and marginalized voices throughout history, interwoven with personal stories and reflections.

She previously made an impression with albums like Grenades (2018)—nominated for a JUNO Award and longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize—in which she explores her Caribbean roots and her family’s migration history. She also worked on film scores, including for the award-winning series The Porter (BET+) and the feature film My Dead Friend Zoe.

On January 31st, Kaia Kater will dock at V11, where she will bring her enchanting blend of folk, jazz, and storytelling to Rotterdam.
