*Drum roll* it’s happening – the Album Release Festival for Calls from the Hull: Eleven Recordings from the Rotterdam Underground!
Words can’t describe how proud we are to announce our first ever release, a compilation of tracks recorded in the belly of the boat during a time when venues and the cultural sector at large was forced to shut down. This project is something very dear to us and we are so excited to share it with everyone else!
Introducing Calls from the Hull: Eleven Recordings from the Rotterdam Underground. A compilation of recordings made in support of and by the local music scene during a time when venues and the cultural sector at large was forced to shut down.
Album Release festival featuring: Tramhaus, FFOOSS, Daatura, Knife Massage, VULVA, Speech Impediment, Rum for Breakfast, Louime, willie d. wallace, and DJ Klapsalon
Over the course of the two evenings between 20.00 and 00.00, bands on the album will play live sets back to back in the same space the recordings were made – the belly of the boat. After the shows, longtime V11 resident and friend DJ Klapsalon will take over to spin the decks for a dance floor-oriented afterparty.
In early March of 2020 a sudden sequence of cancellations of events took place. Starting with one, it moved with a fast domino effect. Within one week all upcoming events had been cancelled until further notice and our red lightship venue was literally left an empty vessel. We thought of ways how we could support Rotterdam’s incredible independent music scene, which is usually very much alive with so much to offer, and decided to re-open V11’s doors. Over the course of one and a half years, local artists were welcomed to record tracks and music videos down in the belly of the boat. The collection of songs remains a genuine freeze-frame of that time.
Calls from the Hull: Eleven Recordings from the Rotterdam Underground and its accompanying album release festival are both respectfully dedicated to all the players within the Rotterdam underground.
Since November 2021 we have continued to record local bands with the intention to release a compilation album Vol. II, which is planned for release in early 2023.
